Chartchai Chionoi 112 lbs beat Fritz Chervet 112 lbs by SD in round 15 of 15

"In Zurich's Hallenstadion on April 27th, hundreds of irate Swiss fans stormed the boxing ring and, with murderous intent, hurled bottles and other lethal articles of debris into the air after hearing that WBA flyweight champion Chartchai Chionoi had retained his title via a split 15 round decision over local hero Fritz Chervet. As the champion, who, except for a slow start through the first four rounds and periods in the 9th and 13th sessions, controlled most of the action, was being hustled back to his dressing room, he was knocked down by a bottle and had to be carried the rest of the way." -World Boxing, September 1974 issue

  • It was thought at the time that an announcer said, "The winner and new world champion.." along with a TV broadcaster proclaiming it over Swiss TV. Fans began hoisting Chervet up on their shoulders and parading him around until the official cards were read. It was then that hostilities began.
