    Flint native Chris Byrd headlined the fight card Wednesday at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort as a full house of 2,895 was in attendance.

    Byrd, a top contender for the International Boxing Federation in the heavyweight division was a fan favorite going into the bout as he battled David Washington of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

    Byrd dominated the fifth round, landing hard right jabs continually to the face of Washington, which led to a standing eight count for Washington.

    In round six Byrd continued his domination by peppering Washington with more right jabs and hooks. By the end of this round it looked as if Byrd could finish the fight with in a round or two.

    Washington staggered into the seventh round taking more punishment and abuse from Byrd, but not falling down.

    Halfway into the eighth round Byrd let out with a flurry of combinations ending them with a hard left. This hurt Washington leaving him stumbling around the ring.

    Into the ninth round Washington was given yet another standing eight count. Later in the round Byrd administered Washington a devastating blow that knocked him down. The hit was still well apparent as the 10th and final round started Byrd was landing combinations left and right.

    This onslaught by Byrd riled up the crowd as they began to chant his name. As the round began to come to a close Byrd knocked Washington down. With two minutes and sixteen seconds left in the round, Byrd sent Washington right back down to the mat for a technical knockout victory.

    The victory improved Byrd’s record to 30-1, (17 KO’s), while Washington’s record fell to 12-4, (7 KO’s). [1]
