While Hammer was clinching after a exchange in the fifth round, Mathis landed several blows with her right hand to Hammers left ear. Suddenly, Hammer went down to the canvas and struggled to come back to her feet. Referee Manfred Kuechler decided that Hammer was unable to continue and decided to disqualify Anne Sophie Mathis for punching to the back of the head. Although Mathis previously appeared to have thrown rabbit punches in the bout, she wasn't deducted a point. Therefore, since there was no previous penalty, Mathis was very upset for being disqualified for rabbit punching. She thought she landed legal punches to Hammer's ear which sent Hammer to the canvas.
- On July 28, 2014, the World Boxing Federation's Executive Committee declared the bout a 'No Contest' and restored the World Boxing Federation Women's World light middleweight title to Ms. Mathis:
