New York Golden Gloves Champion
Edwin "Chu Chu" Malave won two New York Golden Gloves Championships. Malave won the 1968 126lb Open Championship and in 1969 won the 135lb Open Championship. Malave and his brother Vince Malave were declared co-champions at 126 in 1968, as both brothers made the tournament final and tournament officials would not allow the brothers to fight each other. In 1969 Malave defeated Ronald James in the finals. Malave trained at the Police Athletic Leagues 114th Precinct in New York City.
