- Location: Auditorium, Oakland, California, USA

"Johnny Gonsalves, the former lightweight contender, moved decisively off the 'washed up' list with a sparkling unanimous decision over 6th-ranked Cisco Andrade last night at the Oakland Auditorium. Gonsalves, avoiding the clinches which brought him fan disfavor in the past, finished fast in the final three rounds of a 10-round main event to get a slim edge on the cards of all three officials as well as evident crowd approval. Gonsalves, 136, was cut on the side of his left eye in the 6th, when the huskier Andrade, 135, began landing his heavier artillery. But the lightning-quick Gonsalves, with his best showing in some years, kept the favored Cisco out of range from then on. There were no knockdowns." -Hayward Daily Review
- Attendance - 5,500
- Gate - $12,442
- The Gonsalves camp lost money on the deal as they had to promise Andrade $7,500 in order to make the match.
Post-fight comment
- "We'd like to fight Bobby Scanlon at the Cow Palace if he gets past Paolo Rosi in their bout there on October 13th. It would be a great match but I'm doubtful that Scanlon would want to meet Johnny now." -Harvey Livingston, Gonsalves' manager, trying to drum up interest in Gonsalves v Scanlon.
