Clarence "Cotton" King came home to the Legion Arena Friday night and gained a decision over Tony Rios, switch-hitting popular Mexican fighter.

Referee Billy Regan, University of Miami boxing coach, gave King the second, third, sixth and ninth rounds, and the first, seventh and eighth went to Rios and the other three were called a draw.

King, who made his ring debut here several years ago and who has been fighting in Miami since his recent discharge from the Navy, was master of the situation most of the way and many of the estimated 2,000 spectators figured Cotton had much better of the verdict that he was given credit.

Rios fought his regular waiting fight, but when he did come in King used his left hook to advantage and had the edge on in-fighting. Rios occasionally landed hard blows to King's head, but King warded off most of the Mexican's gloves with his arms.

King and Rios were all even going into the ninth round and the local boxer opened up to build up a good advantage. Rios came back in the tenth, but the best he could do in the round was a draw.
