Claudio Barrientos had a record of 5-0 before making his debut in Santiago de Chile in June 1958. He had made his pro debut winning a decision over Hugo Valenzuela in Concepcion. After that he had beaten the following fighters in Osorno: Hernan Rojas (KO3), Sergio Alvarado (KO), Ruben Herrera (PTS), Raul Caba (PTS).
Representing Chile at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, Barrientos won a bronze medal in the Bantamweight (119.5 pounds) class.
