Henry was of African American and Filipino ancestry. Henry became one of the most popular imported fighters on the Hawaiian Islands, drawing heavily from the local Filipino population, and plantation workers. Henry resided in Hawaii after his boxing career. His birth year was reported as 1917 or 1918, and even when Henry attempted a comeback in the mid-1950s, as 1920. His birth year on his death record was 1915, however. Henry's younger brother Bob Burdett boxed in the 1960s.
