Clyde Gray 153 lbs beat Garry Broughton 157 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"In a 10 rounder, Clyde Gray, Canadian and British Empire welterweight champion, scored a unanimous decision over Gary Broughton of Brantford, Ontario, in an over-the-weight non-title match. Gray kept steady pressure on the crafty Broughton for the full 10 rounds but was unable to deck the former Canadian middleweight title holder. Broughton took a lot of punches to the head throughout the fight but his counter-punching opened a cut over Gray's left eye in the 9th round. His corner closed the cut and there was no trace of its bleeding in the 10th round." -Canadian Press

  • Irv Ungerman, Gray's manager, stated after the bout that he offered world welterweight champion John Stracey $100,000 plus $25,000 in expenses to defend his title against Gray in the fall of '76.
