Clyde Gray 147 lbs beat Kevin Odus 140 lbs by TKO at 1:40 in round 5 of 15

"Clyde Gray, Canadian and Commonwealth welterweight champion, unleashed a stunning body attack on Nigerian Kevin Odus Tuesday night to score a 5th round TKO in his 5th successful defense of the Commonwealth title. Gray floored the outclassed Odus twice in the 2nd round and finished him with a flurry of rights and lefts to the head in the 5th. Odus went down but got up at the count of nine and the referee stopped it at 1:40. Gray was bleeding from a cut over his right eye suffered in the 2nd round when he caught a left hook." -Canadian Press

  • Gray pulled out of a planned fight with Pete Ranzany in order to make this defense due to the British Boxing Board of Control's threat that they would strip Gray of the Commonwealth title if he did not defend against Odus by the end of the year.
  • Odus claimed to be the Nigerian and West African welterweight champion and also claimed to have had 200 fights dating back to 1959 with 150 knockouts to his credit despite being unranked in the Commonwealth top ten.
