Clyde Gray beat Sakaraia Ve by TKO in round 8 of 15
- Date: 1978-08-19
- Location: Laucala Bay Hanger, Suva, Fiji
- Referee: Mumtaz Ali
"Clyde Gray of Toronto retained his Commonwealth welterweight title Saturday when a broken false tooth stopped challenger Sakaraia Ve of Fiji in the 8th round. Referee Mumtaz Ali stopped the title fight after Ve turned to his helpers during the round to have his false teeth removed. Immediately after the fight, Ve went to a local hospital where part of a tooth was removed from his gums. When the fight ended, the referee and one of the two judges had the fight even. The second judge, Australian Ray Mitchell, had Gray leading on points 68-66. Ve said he thought the referee was wrong to stop the bout, but he will make no official protest about the result." -Reuters
