Controversial Decision (Policy)
It is popular practice amongst new BoxRec wiki users to offer their personal opinion in bout summaries, by typing in comments showing that they disagree with a decision. Examples of this would be:
- Controversial decision
- Smith was robbed
- This decision was bull!
These comments are inappropriate in an encyclopedia for several reasons which include:
- The BoxRec wiki is not your soapbox, with which to cry about injustice
- Your opinion may not necessarily be shared with other users, and leaving it in there amounts to an endorsement of your viewpoint by the inaction of other users in removing it
If you want to discuss the controversy behind a fight, which is encouraged, provide references and sources for your comments. For example, the first bout between Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield is widely seen as controversial. Simply stating that it is a "controversial decision", and leaving it at that, is not explaining the magnitude of the controversy, or why it is actually considered controversial. Discussing the criticism of officials, using quotes from boxing figures, and from the fighters themselves, goes along way towards giving readers a much better picture of what transpired.
