"Cornelius Boza-Edwards of Las Vegas warmed up for his title shot against WBC junior lightweight champion Bobby Chacon by scoring a 9th round TKO over Pedro Laza of Miami, Fla., on Sunday in Las Vegas. Edwards knocked down Laza twice before the referee stopped the fight 1:49 into the 9th round of the scheduled 10 round bout. Edwards had trouble with Laza during the first seven rounds as Laza kept him at bay with effective counter-punching. But Laza was knocked down early in the 8th round, suffered a cut over the right eye midway through, and was dazed by a left to the head moments before the bell. Edwards dropped Laza quickly in the 9th with a right to the head. Laza took a standing eight count and then was put down again seconds later by three rights to the head.
