Emile Pladner 113 lbs beat Corporal Izzy Schwartz 110 lbs by PTS in round 12 of 12

  • Date: 1928-12-01
  • Location: Velodrome d'Hiver, Paris, Paris, France
  • Referee: Henri Bernstein

Pladner gave Schwartz “a thorough beating.” He “easily gained the decision after winning eight of the rounds with two even."

“Pladner seemed to have a healthy respect for Schwartz’s reputation in the first two rounds, boxing timidly. The ‘Spider’ went after Schwartz like a tiger in the third round and retained the upper hand through the remainder of the bout except for the eighth and ninth rounds, when the New Yorker held him even.

“Schwartz was bleeding profusely in the third round and thereafter. Pladner reopened the cuts round after round. The American played for the body, but it seemed to cause little inconvenience to the Frenchman. Schwartz was groggy in the tenth and a knockout seemed imminent. Only the New Yorker’s extraordinary gameness enabled him to weather the storm.”
