Courtland appeared in several movies, most notably an uncreditied performance as Tony Zale in "Somebody Up There Likes Me" He began acting in 1949 and made his last film, The Jayhawkers, in 1959. In addition to his role in Somebody Up There Likes Me, he appeared uncredited in a number of other boxing movies: The Leather Saint, Champion, Right Cross, The Fight, and Tennessee Champ. He also appeared in Alaska Passage (1959), Space Master X-7 (1958) and Escape from Red Rock (1957). He died on April 4, 1997 in North Hollywood, California.
