Curley Lee was rushed into the Williams fight, having subbed at the last minute for an injured Sonny Liston. He was losing the bout, but after being decked in the fifth, he had won both the 8th and 9th rounds, making the bout close. A minute into the tenth he was on the canvas, his life changed forever, as he suffered brain damage.

Thirteen years later, he attacked his wife and her brother with a crowbar. The wife escaped with injuries but he killed the brother. Then he went inside his house and drowned his 4 young children in the bathtub. Then he tried to kill himself by drowning himself in the same tub. When the police arrived, he said "Come in--if you can stand it." He was found NOT guilty by reason of insanity--the judge specifically citing the Williams fight as having caused his brain injury.
