"Curtis Cokes pounded out a unanimous decision over Irish Billy Collins last night for the Southern Welterweight crown. Cokes, the Texas welterweight champ from Dallas, and Collins, from Nashville, Tenn., both weighed in at 150 pounds for the 12 rounder. Cokes started the fight with a display of speed and fistic brilliance, but then settled back to punish Collins only occasionally." -United Press International
