  • Date: 1980-03-09
  • Location: Resorts International, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA
  • Referee: John Fitzpatrick

"Philadelphia's Curtis Parker knocked out veteran David Love in the 9th round Sunday at Resorts International Hotel Casino to win the USBA middleweight title with his 16th straight victory. Parker celebrated his 21st birthday with lightning short jabs that wore down Love until the San Diego, Calif., fighter fell to the canvas with 19 seconds gone in the 9th round. Both boxers, who fought at 159 1/2 pounds each, stood toe-to-toe trading mighty blows to the head and body. But in the end, it was Parker's youth and stamina that kept him standing as Love, 31, crumpled to the canvas." -Associated Press

  • "He's identical to me. He's tough on the body. But I'd like to see him double up on that short left jab." -Joe Frazier, talking about Curtis Parker
