Dan Shields, age 27, died of injuries sustained while sparring with an unidentified person 18 August 1888 at Poughkeepsie, NY, USA. The two men were sparring on a balcony of McWilliams's Hotel. A bystander interfered, and Shields was knocked over the railing. The fall was about 30 feet, and Shields died of injuries the following morning.
