Pirog, behind on all three scorecards 39-37, landed a hard overhand counter right over a Jacobs left jab that put Jacobs on his back knocked out with his arms wide in the shape of a crucifix. Referee Robert Byrd looked down at Jacobs on the canvas and after reaching the count of five he ended the fight. Pirog, 17-0, 14 kayos, Temryuk, Russia, won the vacant WBO Middleweight title. Rounds 1, 2, and 4 won by Jacobs on his left jab, round 3 won by Pirog with left hooks.
