Danny Lopez 127 lbs beat Octavio Gomez 127 lbs by KO at 1:15 in round 3 of 10

  • Date: 1976-04-28
  • Location: Forum, Inglewood, California, USA
  • Referee: Dick Young

"Danny Lopez, from Alhambra, Calif., had the strength and power to stop Famoso Gomez of Mexico City in the 3rd round of their scheduled 10. Little Red was effective as he battered Gomez from the start of the 1st round until the Mexico City battler was counted out at 1:15 of the 3rd stanza. Little Red said he learned in defeat to Gomez in January 1975 that he couldn't be a boxer against the clever veteran. In the 2nd, Gomez was shook so much from body blows that he turned away and dropped his hands. Lopez didn't take advantage of that opportunity, but in the 3rd he opened with a right to the head, followed with a flurry and then put Gomez down for the full count with a combination starting with a left to the head and followed by a right cross." -Associated Press

  • "I fought my fight this time instead of his fight. I think I can knock out David Kotey and win the title." -Danny Lopez
