"Danny Valdez, 126, Inglewood, regained the vacant California featherweight crown last night when he registered an 8th-round knockout over previously unbeaten Tony Herrera, 125, Los Angeles, in the scheduled 12-round feature at Olympic Auditorium. Valdez, the 2-1 favorite, did a workmanlike job last night. Herrera was on his feet at the end but was in no condition to continue after suffering a badly injured left eye which had been swelling steadily. After a volley of Valdez' artillery, Herrera backed off to reveal a blood-spattered face. Referee Joey Olmos immediately stopped the contest at 2:42 of the 8th. Valdez was in complete command after the 3rd round. There were no knockdowns." -Pasadena Independent
