Dave 'Boy' Green 146 lbs beat Roy Johnson 146 lbs by KO in round 4 of 10

  • Date: 1978-02-21
  • Location: Royal Albert Hall, Kensington, London, United Kingdom
  • Referee: Sid Nathan

"British welterweight Dave 'Boy' Green nursed a painful right hand Wednesday but said it should not impede his progress to a second world title fight against Carlos Palomino. Green jarred bones in the back of the hand before knocking out Roy Johnson of Bermuda with a left hook in the 4th round of a scheduled 10-rounder at London's Royal Albert Hall Tuesday night. The Briton is scheduled to meet Clyde Gray of Canada March 3rd for the Commonwealth title." -Associated Press

  • Green was set to fight Mexico's Zovek Barajas in London on February 21st, which was aborted. Then the bout with Gray was rescheduled to March 7th and then again to May 9th, but the injury to his hand eventually scuttled his Commonwealth bid altogether when the hand failed to respond to treatment and kept him on the shelf for app. 9 months.
