Rafael Rodriguez 149 lbs lost to Dave 'Boy' Green 149 lbs by TKO in round 8 of 10

  • Date: 1979-05-14
  • Location: Conference Centre, Wembley, London, United Kingdom
  • Referee: Harry Gibbs

"European welter champ Dave Green, 148 3/4, beat Mexican Rafael Rodriguez, 149, the bout being stopped in the 8th of a scheduled 10 with the latter still on his feet but shipping punishment and looking a very weary fighter. It was a good, relaxed performance by Green, for Rodriguez had only been stopped once previously. The Mexican was warned twice in the 1st round for slapping by referee Harry Gibbs, and had to rely on his experience to keep Green at bay. Dave maintained his aggression, and Rodriguez often found himself forced to fight back for sheer survival as he was backed against the ropes. Rodriguez had shown he could box, and that he could take punishment, but Green proved too strong for him, and the decision to stop it was the only logical one. The Mexican was only providing token resistance at that time, and to carry on was pointless." -Ring Magazine, Sept. 1979 issue
