"Davey Day, Chicago's perennial contender for the world's lightweight championship, gained a majority decision over Billy Marquart of Winnipeg Monday night in the 10 round main event of a charity fight programme. Day, floored for a nine count in the 2nd, came back strongly to outscore his foe. He staggered Marquart in the 5th and 6th rounds with short rights and opened a cut under Marquart's eye. Day was effective with short punches, while Marquart relied chiefly on left hooks and sweeping rights. Day landed more frequently and effectively." -Associated Press
