In a stunning upset, last-minute replacement David Johnson won the little-known WBE heavyweight title via a six-round split decision over John Clark. The only good thing that can be said about Johnson’s record, which rises to 3-13-3 (0 KOs), is that he has been active fighting eleven times in the last twelve months.

Clark has an imposing physique and he hurt Johnson early, but Clark appeared to run out of gas after the second round. Johnson was then able to score by charging inside and landing one punch at a time while preventing Clark from getting the necessary range for his big shots. Clark repeatedly switched to a southpaw stance but, inexplicably, almost never threw punches from that position.

Scores were 58-56, 58-56 for Johnson and 54-60 for Clark.
