David Love vs. Ralph Hollett (1st meeting)
David Love 163 lbs drew with Ralph Hollett by SD in round 10 of 10
"Canadian champion Ralph Hollett and David Love of San Diego, Calif., battled to a hard-fought 10-round draw in a middleweight bout at the Metro Centre Tuesday. Hollett, who was nursing cuts to his mouth and above and below his left eye, said it was a close fight. Neither fighter had a good chance to take control until the 6th when Hollett caught Love with a hard left hook that sent the American to the canvas for an eight-count. And as the app. 5,300 fans in attendance yelled 'Turn on the Hollett Heat' in reference to Hollett's ring nickname, the Halifax native tried but was unable to put Love away. In the 7th, Love caught Hollett with a hard right that sent Ralph to the canvas and which also cut his mouth. But after the eight-count Love was unable to finish the Canadian champion. Love opened up a cut above Hollett's left eye in the 8th and in the 9th caught him against the ropes but again was unable to finish him. Both fighters were tired and sluggish in the 10th and neither was able to mount an offensive." -Canadian Press
