Dayton Gym Club
Dayton Gym Club is a former boxing venue in Dayton, Ohio, USA located at 430 Wayne Ave. For the first 40 years of the 20th Century it served as one of Dayton's primary clubs, and was one of the longest running clubs in the Midwest. With the exception of a period between 1927 and 1933, it ran continuously up until World War II. It held shows as late as the late 1970s. The venue was purchased by the Dayton Theatre Guild in 2008, who renovated it as a venue for theatre arts and entertainment.
The venue was also known as the Gymnastic Club and the Dayton Gym.
No Decision status at venue
Prior to 1935, the Dayton Gym Club was considered a semi-pro club and was under the supervision of the City of Dayton's commission, along with it's fellow club the Dayton Eagles' Club. Other shows in the city were deemed professional and were under the supervision of the Montgomery County boxing commission, and were held to official decision. Beginning in 1935, boxing in Dayton was run by both the Dayton and Montgomery County commissions, before combining as one commission in 1936.
As a result it's generally believed that bouts at the Dayton Gym Club prior to 1935, were largely fought to no-decision, though it is possible, yet unclear if this designation was under the promoters discretion. Beginning with the 1935/36 season, cards featured a main event or semi-final to a decision. By the 1936/37 season all bouts at the Dayton Gym Club were being held to a decision, which remained the status thereafter.
