Delio “Baby Red” Palacios, of Benavides, Texas, is a boxer who had a superb career in both the amateur and professional ranks. Perhaps his best year as an amateur was in 1980, when he fought his way to the National Quarter Finals and captured the Western Olympics Trials Crown. As an amateur, Delio’s record was 97-6.
Palacios turned pro in 1981, and his bouts were frequently televised on the ESPN, HSE, and Telemundo networks. As a pro, his record was 30-4. At one time he was ranked #10 in the world, according to the World Boxing Organization. Other rankings he attained included #8 in the North American Boxing Federation, #1 in the Texas Ratings, and #2 in the Mid-America Listings. Delio is also the founder of Hebbronville’s Police Activities League (PAL), and he’s actively involved in helping children through his amateur boxing program.
A devout family man, he and his wife, Veronica, have five children and currently reside in the small city of Hebbronville, Texas. [1]
