Denard Trapp, a member of the Army boxing team out of Fort Hood, Texas, won gold at the 1990 Olympic Festival at 178 pounds, and the 1989 ABF Region 8 Championships at 165lbs. His other titles include the 1985 NJ Golden Gloves (178lbs novice) and 1987 Sarge Johnson Memorial Tournament at 165 pounds. Trapp also earned silver at the 1991 Olympic Festival, 1991 US National Championships and the 1992 Armed Forces Championships. He boxed in Germany, Cuba and Canada, and fought three future pro champions (John Ruiz, Montell Griffin and Dariusz Michalczewski). His son Tyric Trapp is a two-time National Golden Gloves champion.
