"Substitute Denny Moyer of Portland, Ore., beat welterweight contender Charley Scott of Philadelphia Saturday night with persistent left jabs and short rights for a unanimous 10 round decision in their nationally televised fight at MSG. Moyer, who accepted the fight on 10 days notice, had a weight advantage of 8 3/4 pounds over the left-hook specialist, who tried to slow down Moyer with a body attack. Moyer staggered Scott in the 1st round, but Scott came back to make a great fight in which he started Moyer's nose bleeding in the 2nd round and gashed his right brow in the 7th. There were no knockdowns." -United Press International

  • Unofficial UPI scorecard - 6-4 Moyer
  • Moyer substituted for Federico Thompson who pulled out due to a cut mouth sustained in training.
