"Denny Moyer, trailing on all three official cards after five rounds, successfully defended his North American middleweight championship Wednesday night by scoring a TKO over David Oropeza in their scheduled 12-round bout. Moyer, 156 1/2, Portland, Ore., floored Oropeza, 149, Phoenix, with a short right midway through the 6th round. Oropeza was still groggy after taking the mandatory eight-count and another short right floored him again almost immediately. Another eight-count left Oropeza still glassy-eyed and Moyer finished him off with a flurry of lefts and rights to the head. When Oropeza went down for the third time at 2:39 of the 6th, referee Nate Morgan raised Moyer's arm in victory under Nevada rules." -United Press International
