Denny Moyer 157 lbs lost to Jimmy Lester 155 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Jimmy Lester has punched his way into national prominence. The unbeaten San Francisco middleweight scored his biggest win with a unanimous decision over bleeding Denny Moyer of Portland, Oregon, enroute to win No. 16 last night at Kezar Pavilion. Lester, 155 1/2, decked Moyer, the ex-junior middleweight king, in the 3rd round with a short burst to the body. Both Moyer, 156 1/2, and his manager, Sid Flaherty, claimed Lester threw him to the canvas. The big round for Lester, which wrapped up the decision, came in the 8th, when he staggered Moyer with two right-hand howitzers. An ensuing barrage opened a cut on Moyer's right eyebrow. Moyer was at his strongest in the first two rounds and the final two. Denny buckled Lester's knees in the 9th with one right hand and chased him into the ropes with another. The fight was a sensation and left a capacity crowd, which paid $7,344 screaming for a rematch." -Oakland Tribune

  • Moyer required 5 stitches to close the wound on his right eye.
