"26-year-old John L. Sullivan looked like the ringwise fighter as he took a 10-round decision over Denny Moyer, one of the winningest fighters in the game. Sullivan, 155, had Moyer, 160, off-balance most of the night with sharp lefts as he won the bout which was for the Northwest middleweight title. Sullivan, who lives in Carson City and Eugene, came up with his best punch of the fight in the 9th round when a smashing left sent Moyer's head reeling back. Almost everyone of the 1,700 fans jammed into the Lane County Fairgrounds indoor arena were on their feet at the end of the bout. Sullivan and Moyer stood toe-to-toe for the last 30 seconds and slugged it out." -Nevada State Journal
