"Middleweight Denny Moyer used superior experience to pound out a unanimous 12-round decision Saturday night over Argentina's Jose Chirino. Moyer, of Portland, Ore., closed Chirino's left eye with steady punching by the final round. Chirino's white trunks were blood-specked early in the fight from a bloody nose. Moyer carried the fight to the young Argentinian and was in control from the 2nd round on. Moyer used combinations of short lefts as the Argentinian pressed the attack, then swung hard with rights to rock Chirino into a clinch in the televised fight. Chirino, despite blood from his nose and a mouse over his left eye, was tiring but still full of power. Moyer scored points with short jabs, which took the steam out of his opponent." -Associated Press
