In the preliminary bout to the Patrick Hyland versus Emmanuel Lucero main event on a seven bout boxing card at Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, co-sponsored by Team Snooki and First Round Promotions, former heavyweight contender Derric Rossy of Medford, New Jersey, won his first bout in nearly two years, an eight round decision over local Atlantic City heavyweight Livin Castillo, formerly of Ecuador. It was a very slow, quiet bout, with Rossy boxing patiently and cautiously and scoring with jab opportunities when there were openings. Rossy had to be constantly reminded by his corner to keep 'turning' not to remain standing in front of Castillo so as not to provide a consistent target. Castillo scored with jab counters whenever Rossy did not keep moving fast enough, keeping the bout close. Both fighters appeared in top condition, with no injuries or knockdowns. Clean bout. Rossy rose to 26-5, 14 kayos. Castillo fell to 16-11, 10 kayos. Botu perhaps a bit closer than the scoring, but Rossy was the clear winner as the slightly busier fighter. Close, exciting heavyweight match, with Rossy a bit rusty.
