Dick Burge was born in Cheltenham in 1865. He reigned as British Lightweight Champion from 1891 to 1897. After he retired in 1900 he became a promotor of boxing at the The_Ring in South London.
At one point, he was sentenced to ten years in prison for his part of the $850,000 Bank of Liverpool forgeries, and released late April 1907. [1]
Burge died in London, March 15, 1918, of pneumonia, while serving as a soldier with the First Surrey Rifles.
