Dick Leonard was notable for handing Young Stribling his professional defeat-and had several more very competitive fights with Stribling though he lost every other time. Won the Florida Junior Lightweight Title in 1925, and also won the Georgia Featherweight Title in 1921 where he began his boxing career-known as the Dixie Idol. According to Young Stribling's biography written in 2011 "The Greatest Champion That Never Was: The Life of W.L. Stribling." by Jackie Weldon White-Leonard was the Georgia State Featherweight Champion at the time that he defeated Stribling. The Atlanta Constitution in an article date June 6 1921 confirmed that Leonard had been the Georgia Featherweight Champion when he lost the title to Young Stribling on May 26th 1921.
