Dick Tiger 159 lbs beat Wilf Greaves 160 lbs by TKO at 1:20 in round 9 of 15

  • Date: 1960-11-30
  • Location: Edmonton Gardens, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
  • Referee: Johnny Smith

"Nigeria's Dick Tiger punched his way back to the British Empire middleweight title here Wednesday night when he won on a 9th round TKO in a scheduled 15 round fight with Edmonton's Wilf Greaves. After an even opening round, Tiger, 31, shook his opponent with a right to the jaw in the 3rd round and moved on top for the balance of the fight with a series of rights and lefts that rocked the defending champion into helplessness. Referee John Smith stopped the fight after 80 seconds of the 9th round as Tiger was pounding his man in a corner. The Nigerian kept up a tremendous pace throughout the fight, continually wearing the 25 year old Greaves down, and once on top it was a question of how long Greaves could last." -Canadian Press
