"Dick Tiger of Nigeria, the British Empire middleweight champion, dropped young Billy Pickett of New York in the 4th round and went on to take a unanimous decision in a nationally televised 10-round bout at MSG. Tiger was in command almost all the way. In the 4th round he landed a left to the body and followed up with a short right to the jaw to drop Pickett for the mandatory eight count. After that Pickett remained most respectful, jabbing and moving away, while Tiger stalked his elusive opponent. He landed right hand leads frequently, but was unable to follow up as Pickett danced away." -Associated Press

- Pickett substituted for Florentino Fernandez who was unable to obtain a visa to leave Cuba in time for the match.
