- WBC heavyweight elimination bout for the number one position and a mandatory title shot with Deontay Wilder.

- It was revealed after the fight that Whyte failed a drug test three days before the fight. His A sample contained traces of anabolic steroids. An emergency hearing was conducted by UKAD before the fight and Whyte was allowed to go forward with the bout. However, neither Rivas' team or the WBC were informed of the positive drug test. As of July 31, 2019, the results of the B sample have not been released.
- In light of the positive drug test, the WBC suspended Whyte's recognition as interim champion pending an investigation.
