Notes

  • Breazeale loses every round but wins the vacant World Boxing Council Continental Americas title, a significant belt in figuring the WBC heavyweight ratings schematic.
  • Mansour won the first five rounds on the judges' scorecards (50-44, 50-44, 50-44), and knocked down Breazeale in the third round for a 10-8 round, who beat the count.
  • Mansour inadvertently bit his tongue nearly in half during the second round and could not breathe through his mouth, nor his nose as he entered the bout with a cold. Mansour gave up on his stool.
  • Contributing to the tongue injury, Mansour's mouthpiece for this bout was fitted for his upper teeth only.[[1]] It remained a mystery why the partial mouthpiece was even allowed by the C.S.A.C.
  • Mansour underwent five hours of surgery and took 36 stitches in his tongue to put it back together, one of the most bizarre injuries ever incurred during a heavyweight bout.
  • Despite press reports which 'jumped the gun' and said Mansour had fractured his jaw, causing the stoppage, Mansour's jaw was not fractured, and the early reports turned out to be false.
