"Don Cockell, 210 1/2, of England was shoved vigorously toward a September heavyweight title shot following his second victory over veteran Harry Matthews, 180 1/2, of Seattle. Cockell, British and Empire heavyweight champion, won referee Jack Hart's decision over 31 year old Matthews in their return 10-round bout Tuesday night in White City Stadium. Matthews was in trouble only in the 8th, when staggered by a left hook and barraged against the ropes. His nose bled in the 7th, while Cockell finished with a badly puffed left eye and a bleeding nose. There were no knockdowns" -United Press
