"Don Johnson, Los Angeles, and Mexico City's Juan Ramirez fought to a six round technical draw Tuesday night when Johnson was butted accidentally in the scheduled 10 round bout at the Olympic Auditorium. A cut was opened on Johnson's forehead above his left eye in the 5th round when Ramirez's head collided with his. The bout was allowed to continue until 1:40 of the 6th round when blows around the cut caused it to bleed freely and referee Russ Bradford declared the match a draw." -United Press International
- Although Johnson decked Ramirez in the 2nd round with a looping left, Ramirez was ahead on the scorecards of all three officials when the bout was terminated.
