  • Referee: Eugene Henderson

"Floored by a punch after the 8th round had ended, British lightweight champion Dave Charnley rallied strongly in the last two rounds to win a close decision in 10 rounds over Don Jordan of Los Angeles. Jordan was booed by the capacity crowd of 11,000 in Harringay Arena when he hit Charnley after the round-ending bells in both the 8th and 9th rounds. A left hook to the jaw felled the Briton after the 8th was over. Aroused to fighting fury by the foul, the southpaw Charnley sailed in with both hands to capture the 9th and 10th rounds and the verdict from the referee. Jordan landed the more damaging punches. He staggered Charnley in the 4th and 7th rounds. After being jarred in the 7th, however, Charnley replied with a series of powerful body punches." -Associated Press
