"World welterweight champion Don Jordan of Los Angeles was knocked out in the 4th round of a scheduled 10 round non-title fight tonight by Argentine titleholder Federico Thompson. The surprise end of the fight came after one minute of the 4th round and sent a crowd of 18,000 fans at Luna Park Stadium into wild excitement. Thompson dominated the fight from the very first round. In surging international attention, Thompson stopped Jordan with a shattering right hand which caught the world champ on the left ear. Jordan made a half turn and fell face down on the canvas. When referee Hiram Nunez' count reached 10, Jordan was on his feet again but walked in a daze to his corner where he was helped by his handlers.
