"Long Beach's first venture into the national television boxing scene was both an artistic and financial success Wednesday night as the 'Geronimo Kid' from Los Angeles, Don Jordan, pounded out a 12 round split decision victory over his foe from Mexico, Gaspar 'Indian' Ortega at the Lafayette Hotel. The two willing mixers didn't allow one slow round and were battling so ferociously toe-to-toe in the 12th and final stanza that the near capacity throng gave them a standing ovation. Jordan and Ortega fought exactly the same type of fight prescribed in pre-bout stories. Jordan tossed the heavier bombs, while Ortega contented himself with counter-punching." -Long Beach Independent
- This bout was an official 12 round elimination bout and nailed down a December 5th title shot for Jordan against Virgil Akins.
- Purses - both fighters made app. $5,000 apiece ($4,000 of that coming from TV monies).
Unofficial scorecards (all for Jordan)
- Long Beach Independent - 117-112

Post fight comments
- "Honestly, I'm glad I won't be fighting Ortega again for awhile, because he's a tough fellow. You can't let up or he'll murder you. He never hurt me bad tonight, but he sure got some good jolts to my side. I thought he was much stronger tonight than in our last fight." -Don Jordan
- "I thought I deserved a draw, nothing less. But he's much faster than Virgil Akins and he's hard to hit. I had trouble landing a clean punch to the head. I think I could beat Akins too, if I had the chance." -Gaspar Ortega
