Record claimed 44-0 (42 knockouts, 32 first round); Lost decisions to Anthony Williams and John McKnight in 1978.

Biography

In the 1980s, Dorian "Samson" Melamed was a highly regarded boxing prospect from South Florida. He lived on Miami Beach, and attended Miami Beach Senior High School.

Melamed was trained by his father Isaac at the 5th Street Gym in South Beach, and the Elizabeth Virrick Gym in Coconut Grove, Florida.

He began his amateur career as a flyweight and according to a Miami Herald article, was 42-0 (42 knockouts) upon entering the 1980 Sunshine State Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament in Coconut Grove, Florida. Research shows that Melamed had at least 5-decision wins prior to 1980 and two defeats.

On March 5th, Melamed decisioned Tampa, Florida's Ben Hall in 3 rounds to win the Junior Open Division in the Light-Welterweight category.

A year later, Melamed won the 1981 Jr. Olympic Boxing Championship and decided to turn professional.

Now 6 feet 3 inches tall, and weighing over 175 pounds, Melamed racked up a 5-0 (4 knockouts)record, with his most impressive victory over veteran John L.Johnson.

Mysteriously, Melamed stopped boxing. Two years later, he returned to score two quick knockouts. After going 7-0 (6 knockouts), Dorian Melamed vanished from the boxing scene.

In 2010, Dorian Melamed, 44, was reportedly living in Boyton Beach, Florida; long retired from boxing.
