"Doug Jones, second-ranked contender from New York, stopped big Tom McNeeley of Arlington, Mass., on a TKO in five rounds at the NY Coliseum Monday night. Jones knew where he was headed from the opening bell. He cut Tom over the left eye in the 2nd round and bloodied his nose in the 3rd round. In the 4th Jones floored the bleeding McNeeley with a barrage of punches. Dr. Alexander Schiff ordered the fight stopped at the end of the 5th round when examination showed McNeeley's nose was broken." -Associated Press
- Jones manager Alex Koskowitz was set to fly out to Europe the following day to investigate an offer from Swedish promoter Edwin Ahlquist of $75,000 to fight Floyd Patterson in Stockholm and a $25,000 offer to fight Karl Mildenberger in Germany.
