"Doug Vaillant of Miami, the 7th ranking lightweight, scored a unanimous 10 round decision over Luis Molina of San Jose Tuesday night in the Civic Auditorium. Vaillant, using a 5 inch reach advantage, began piling up points over Molina, the 6th ranked lightweight, almost from the opening bell. The lanky Cuban exile took full command of the fight in the middle rounds, during which time Molina was helpless as his opponent used long left jabs to great advantage. Molina tried desperately for a knockout in the 10th round but failed when Vaillant back-peddled out of danger. There were no knockdowns." -United Press International
